Alina Loewenich - Recorder | Art Direction
The recorder player and interdisciplinary artist Alina Loewenich is a musician and performer dedicated to a wide variety of epochs, genres and styles. She is a founding member and artistic director of the ensemble opia, which specialises in the lively, historical interpretation of music from the late Middle Ages to the Renaissance and early Baroque. She also works closely with young composers and has been involved in several world premieres. She creates interdisciplinary concert formats with experimental, improvised and contemporary music that combine different art forms such as music, live-visuals and language.
She has been a member of the Theatre Marabu, a children's and youth theatre ensemble in Bonn, since spring 2022. In various pieces, which premiered in 2022 & 2024, she developed musical-performative theatre pieces in collective collaboration. “SPLASH!” (premiere 2022) was a guest at the Beethovenfest in Bonn, the Ruhrfestspiele Recklinghausen, the Maifestspiele Wiesbaden and received the Marburg Children's and Youth Theatre Prize 2023 at the KUSS Festival. Further guest performances took place in NRW, Frankfurt, Luxembourg, Liechtenstein, Switzerland and the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg. In 2025, “SPLASH!” was invited to “Augenblick mal” in Berlin. Guest performances of “Bad Bugs” (premiere 2024) are also planned in Hamburg (Klangfest & Elbphilharmonie) and at many other venues.
She studied concert recorder, instrumental pedagogy and elementary music pedagogy at the University of Music and Dance Cologne from 2010 - 2015 and completed the diploma programme in concert recorder at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna from 2015 - 2019. In spring 2022 she received a Master of Music in the interpretation of contemporary music at the Cologne University of Music and Dance.
Alina Loewenich is a prizewinner of international competitions (Germany-2019, Italy-2019, Israel-2019) and was a scholarship holder of the Werner Richard - Dr Carl Dörken Foundation 2014. She has performed at renowned festivals such as the Festwochen der Alten Musik Innsbruck (AUT), the Kölner Fest für Alte Musik (DEU), the Festival Oude Muziek Utrecht (NLD) and the Grafenegg Festival (AUT-2019), among others. She has appeared several times live on the radio station WDR 3 in the programme ‘Tonart’ and has taken part in radio productions by Deutschlandfunk, Bayrischer Rundfunk and Ö1.
Alina Loewenich is a lecturer for recorder and chamber music at the Brühl Art and Music School. In regular workshops in the Rhineland, she is able to share her love of early and contemporary music, focusing on playing in recorder consort as well as improvising in contemporary music.
